Violence, violence and only violence: My quick take on Tamil movie ‘Saani kaayidham’ (Amazon)

It's gory, it's gruesome, it's bloody violent, it's a mindless murder spree by an abused lady, yes you have seen it earlier in movies like इंसाफ़ का तराज़ू. But this one is very graphical, so much so that I felt nauseated by the time Ponni bumped off her fourth molester.

I am not sure about the timeline this movie is set, but after watching couple of movies like Jai Bhim, karnan, asuran , I am wondering if the class and caste divide is so much prevalent in our southern state/s? That too in this century?

A rice mill workers wife (who also happens to be a cop) is brutally assaulted by the mill owners because her husband had a brawl with them in the mill. They also set fire to her hatched dwelling in which her drunk husband and young daughter were sleeping. Later on with the help of their clout of money and muscle power these culprits escape the law. victim Ponni with the help of her half brother then goes about eliminating each of her molesters one by one in a gruesomme manner. This is the simple plotline of ‘jyoti bane jwaala’ story.

Keerthy Suresh and Selva Raghavan are the brother and sister duo., in fact it was because of Selva I watched this movie as I had seen his work recently in movie Beast. keerthy Suresh is too pretty to be cast in this revenge saga, she however did a ok job. Rustic setting and benefiting characters are chosen, goes well with the plot. Director tried to chapterise the movies by introducing the flashbacks in black and white, this was a good attempt.

If you can stand too much violence and bloodbath, then this desi kill bill is for you. Else you can ignore it.
