Zero to Hero

Zero to Hero: My Quick take on SRK’s “Pathan”

“When one hits the bottom, the only way to go is - up” goes the often-used adage which was proven right by SRK.

After a forgettable experiment with his height in “Zero”, SRK has bounced back to new heights with “Pathan”, Its indeed a zero to Hero again trajectory. The movie can be termed as action packed body shop, with action a minute by well-toned bodies. If you are lover of KFC then you will enjoy the “breast pieces” of John Abbraham, “Wings and ribs” of SRK and “Leg pieces” of Deepika. All three keep on exhibiting their bodies and sometimes their combat skills throughout the movie.

When you hire the action coordinator of Captain America & Top Gun maverick (Cassey O-Neil) then the action scenes are bound to be impressive. Director Siddharth Anand makes it a point to take us around the globe where these action scenes are staged, in earlier avatar SRK would have gone there to picturize his songs with his chiffon clad babes, now he is with shot guns. Deepika has definitely saved her excess baggage charges as she has travelled with “bare” minimum wardrobe which bares more and robes little. In between Bhaijaan has a literal “छप्पर फाड़” entry in his Tiger avatar, But the Real show stopper is handsome hunk “John Abraham”, he has continued from where he has left in Dhoom, his antagonist Jim is damn impressive.

Movie looks more like a collage of well-choreographed action pieces set on some visually appealing places like City walk of Dubai to frozen Lake Baikal of Russia. There are stunts in cars, in running train, on bikes, in air except under water you have action everywhere. Amongst all these action pieces the makers have tries to fit in a screenplay with Judy Dench like character M played by Dimple Kapadia, a broken arrow John Abraham an Agent gone rogue, over ambitious General of Pakistan who in his ‘sakaalish’ get up wants to teach India a lesson, there is a “raktabeej” a modified small pox virus meant to destroy a country, there is a Vixen who is an ISI agent who keeps on changing sides the way she keeps changing her bikinis, and above all is our Pathan , a RAW agent who can defy gravity, dodge bullets and absorb blows and packs a punch and save the nation from deadly virus attack.

Apart from few sleek action scenes, I liked the fact that there was only one song in the movie (One more in the end credits) , few cheeky dialogs, and good production value of CGI sets (one may get a feel of any Bond movie), Baring this rest everything is “extra” ordinary. I wish maker had invested more in better story/screenplay.

Lastly, as regards Boycott call, I thought our neighbors will find it more difficult to pallet that their agent is skimpily dressed and gobbles neat spirits and gets cozy with ‘our’ Pathan.

Looks like Spy Universe is taking its shape, with Pathan and Tiger joining hands here, maybe Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) will jump in the next venture. If you love watching mindless action with wafer thin storyline then join the bandwagon of SRK fans who have given the movie one of the best openings till date. Else await its OTT arrival.
