तरल सरल और मैलोड्रामा का तड़का !!

तरल सरल और मैलोड्रामा का तड़का : My quick take on “Tarla” (Zee5)

My one-word take on this movie about cooking and the chef is “लाजवाब”. This autobiographical account of the original MasterChef of India ‘Padmashri Tarala Dalal ‘ is simply awesome. Hats off to writer/director Piyush Gupta to have written and directed this beautiful movie. In fact, he has some good films like Dangal, Bhoothnath, and Chichore to his credit. Not sure if this is Piyush Gupta’s maiden directorial venture (he is known more for his writing), if so, I should say ‘take a bow’ director.

A good script with an able director cum writer and some stellar performances are good enough ingredients for a great recipe, hence one will not get disappointed while watching Tarala. The plot is as plain as plain vanilla, it's a story of a self-made chef who gave us ‘eggless ghee cake’, but also tells us that her Journey from a housewife to becoming a MasterChef was not a cake-walk. Her trials and tribulations in chasing her dream of “कुछ तो करना है” makes this 2-hour long movie watchable. Though the movie takes time to simmer (one may feel the start is on धीमी आँच) but then somewhere midway it changes gears for good.

It's a Sharib Hashmi show, he plays the husband of Tarala Dalal. This talent has unfortunately never gotten the right dues in Hindi films/series, as he has always been used like a कड़ीपत्ता in Indian recipes 😉 (used to pep up flavor but never consumed). Huma Qureshi plays the titular character of Tarala Dalal, she too has impressive moments in the movie (however I was a bit annoyed by her dentures, I Don't know why it was used). Not sure if the melodrama shown was true in the real life of Dalals, who were South Mumabai residents, but it acted as great तड़का in the plot.

The movie is to be watched with the entire family, especially with the अन्नपूर्णाs of yr home who are the culinary artists of yr kitchen. All I can say is salam to all the Tarla Dalal’s of our homes.

Dont miss.
