हे राम : My quick take on Om Raut’s “Adipurush”

Kumar Vishwas, is one of my favorite poets and speaker, his latest presentations is called ‘अपने अपने राम’, looks like Om Raut too decided to come up with his own version of मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम. In the process he forgot his मर्यादा. This is a good enough testimony of why makers like James Cameron or R Rajamaouli stand apart as fantastic storytellers, and someone who can complement their work with great use of technology.

Looks like Om Raut’s team of visualizers and Graphic design artists are DC, Marvel and Disney movie fans, because they just could not visualize beyond these Hollywood movies. Hence you will feel like watching jungle book when there is वाली सुग्रीव dual, the setting will remind you of King Louis बंदर लोग. The वानर सेना will export you to Planet of Apes, here Om Raut forgot that Gorillas are not found in India, but they were shown as the part of वानर सेना.

Lankesh Raavan was reduced to a ‘Batman’ 😀, no he doesn't wear cape but he drive a real ‘bat-o-mobile’ and controls bats rathers bats with bats in battlefield. His सोने की लंका seems to be made of black gold, as there is no semblance of glitter. अशोक वाटिका where Sitama is kept as a captive, has no Ashok trees, instead we see Japanese Sakura trees with full sakura bloom. Raavan’s Bat will remind you of the Targaryen’s dragon sans firepower.

Pathetic visualization has led to ridiculous CGI which looks more like an elementary school project. To add to these visual goofups, you have few HINDI dialogs which would have made circuit of Munnabhai happy, एकदम टपोरी.

However there a few moments which impressed me, like the Prabhu Ramchandra riding on Hanuman’s back during the battle. Raavan getting himself massaged on the bed of pythons and anacondas. The climax Ram-Raavan yudh too was impressive. Ajay-Atuls score is the only saving grace, the song Jai Shri Ram is one it's way to become a popular Anthem soon.

In a country where movies of Joginders and T Rajenders can be accepted, then real big star Prabhaas can be easily accepted as Shri Ram. Social media is filled with critical reviews of this movie, but the box office collections tell a different story.
